Abstract

Während ich diese Zeilen schreibe, hat Google gerade die Videoplattform YouTube gekauft - ein weiterer Baustein auf dem Weg zum sowohl marktbeherrschenden Instrument als auch dominierenden Anbieter im Internet. Die FAZ vermutet, dass sich die Fernsehlandschaft durch den »Google-Coup« verändern wird. Doch nicht erst seit dieser Entwicklung müssten sich die öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten und insbesondere die Onlineredaktionen Gedanken über ihren Umgang mit Suchmaschinen und -portalen machen. Ich habe nun gleich zu Beginn dieses Kapitels das Thema >Suchmaschinen< auf Google reduziert. Über Suchmaschinen zu schreiben heißt jedoch, sich in erster Linie mit Google auseinander zu setzen. Google ist das meistgenutzte, reichweitenstärkste, wertvollste Medienunternehmen der Welt. Und Google ist auch bei tagesschau.de, der zentralen Online-Nachrichtenredaktion der ARD, die meistgenutzte Suchmaschine. Google ist für uns einerseits Rechercheinstrument, andererseits ist es für viele Nutzer Zugangsportal zu unseren Inhalten (über die Treffer bei der Suche oder über den Service >Google News<). Google hat somit eine doppelte Bedeutung für die journalistische Arbeit bei tagesschau.de: Die Qualität und die Quantität der Suchergebnisse, die durch die Benutzung von Google als Suchinstrument erzielt werden, können unsere Berichterstattung beeinflussen. Die Treffer wiederum, die auf Inhalte bei tagesschau.de führen, sorgen dafür, dass unsere Artikel häufiger gefunden und gelesen werden.
