"Die Informationen der Welt zu organisieren und allgemein zugänglich zu machen - das ist das selbst erklärte Ziel der Suchmaschine Google. In der Nacht zum Dienstag konnte das Unternehmen seiner Aufgabe allerdings unfreiwillig für kurze Zeit nicht nachkommen. Der Grund: Die deutsche Internet-Adresse von Google war nach Angaben von GoogleSprecher Stefan Keuchel "von Mitternacht bis etwa 2.30 Uhr nicht zugänglich". Google treffe dabei keine Schuld, ein "Privatmensch" habe sich unberechtigterweise als Inhaber von "google.de" ausgegeben, so Keuchel. "Für alle Nutzer war der Zugang seit dem Morgen wieder frei. Unsere Werbekunden haben keinen finanziellen Schaden erlitten", bilanzierte der Google-Sprecher. Was war passiert? Nach Angaben von Denic (siehe Kasten) war die Domain "google.de" versehentlich frei gegeben und auf einen anderen Inhaber als Google Inc. übertragen worden. Nutzer landeten beim Aufruf von Google so auf der Webseite des neuen Inhabers. Bei der Registrierstelle für Internetadressen kann man sich nicht erklären, wie es trotz der üblichen doppelten Prüfung zu der vom Domaininhaber nicht autorisierten Änderung kommen konnte. Dies werde nun zusammen mit den betroffenen Providern (Anbietern) im Detail geklärt, so ein Denic-Sprecher. Mehrere zehntausend Provider- und Inhaberwechsel bearbeitet die Denic im Monat. Dabei schickt der neue Anbieter einen Auftrag an das automatische. Registrierungssystem der Denic, welches eine Benachrichtigung an den derzeitigen Provider sendet und von ihm eine Bestätigung fordert. Um unberechtigte Wechsel zu verhindern, muss der neue Anbieter überprüfen, ob der Auftraggeber mit dem Domaininhaber identisch ist. Gleichzeitig muss der vorherige Anbieter den Wechsel ablehnen, wenn er nicht sicher ist, dass dieser dem Willen des Domaininhabers entspricht, erklärte ein Denic-Sprecher. "Im konkreten Fall haben augenscheinlich beide Prüfungsmechanismen nicht funktioniert." Im August 2004 hatte das Internet-Auktionshaus Ebay einen ähnlichen Fall erlebt. Auch hier war die deutsche Webadresse in falsche Hände geraten."
