Abstract
Die Philosophin Karen Gloy zeigt in dieser klar geschriebenen, umfassenden Ideengeschichte die Herkunft unserer Bilder und Vorstellungen von der Natur. Sie schildert ihren Wandel im Lauf der Jahrhunderte bis in unsere Zeit. Die Autorin erläutert anschaulich das urzeitlich magisch-mythische, das antike naturwissenschaftliche, das mittelalterlich symbolische, das neuzeitlich mechanistische und das moderne technologische Verständnis der Natur. Die wichtigsten Vertreter einer jeden Zeit und ihre Naturauffassung werden vorgestellt. Platon und Aristoteles, Franz von Assisi und Paracelsus, Kant und Kepler, Heidegger und von Weizäcker kommen zu Wort. Karen Gloys geschlossene Darstellung zeigt kenntnisreich den Wandel der Naturvorstellungen von den mythischen Anfängen bis zu den technischen Allmachtsfantasien der Gegenwart.
