Abstract

In den letzten Jahrzehnten ließ sich eine zunehmende Verbesserung der Kopiertechnik beobachten. Während analoge Kopien noch Qualitätsunterschiede zum Original aufwiesen, sind digitale Kopien und digitales Original ununterscheidbar geworden. Mitte der 1990er Jahre wurde diese Entwicklung erstmals zu einem ernsten Problem für die Musikindustrie. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt wurden die CDBrenner für Endverbraucher erschwinglich. Ende der 1990er Jahre erfuhren außerdem die so genannten Internet Tauschbörsen immer stärkeren Zulauf, da Internet-Benutzer dort kostenlos Dateien von der Festplatte anderer Benutzer kopieren können. Meist handelt es sich dabei um urheberrechtlich geschützte Musik, Filme oder Software. Dies führte zu einem immensen Anstieg privater Vervielfältigungen. Gleichzeitig geht der Bedarf an gewerblich hergestellten Kopien stärker zurück. Damit verlagert sich insgesamt der Schwerpunkt des Vervielfältigungsvorgangs aus dem gewerblichen in den dezentralen privaten Sektor.
