Abstract
Der Wissenschaftsjournalist und Medienberater Frank Hartmann widmet sich im Folgenden einer neuen Wissenschaftsdisziplin der Philosophie: der Medientheorie. Wie wirken sich Medien und Technik auf Kultur und Gesellschaft sowie unsere Wahrnehmung der WeIt aus?

"Wir alle kennen den Spruch: Das Medium ist die Botschaft. In diesem Slogan verdichtete der Kanadier Marshall McLuhan vor fast einem halben Jahrhundert die Erkenntnisse einer neuen Zeit. Sie war mit der Elektrizität angebrochen, die neue Möglichkeiten zum Speichern von Information geschaffen hat und damit die Grundlage für ein neues Medienzeitalter bildete. McLuhan war der Überzeugung, dass damit die zweieinhalb Jahrtausende währende Ignoranz der Philosophie gegenüber der Technik beendet sein muss. Die psychischen und sozialen Folgen der neuen audiovisuellen Medien und des eben beginnenden Zeitalters von Automation und Information sind Gegenstand seiner neuen Wissenschaftsdisziplin, der Medientheorie."
