Abstract

Wenn wir in den Spiegel blicken, offenbart sich eine wichtige leistung unseres Gehirns: Wir erkennen uns selbst. Dieses sog. Ichbewusstsein bestimmt unser alltägliches Verhalten und Zusammenleben. Es ist die Voraussetzung dafür, dass wir über unser eigenes Denken und Handeln nachdenken und uns in andere Menschen hineinversetzen können. Wie entwickelt sich das Ichbewusstsein bei Kindern? Gibt es ein Ichbewusstsein bei Tieren? Kann es bei Hirnschädigungen verloren gehen? Wie beeinflusst das Ichbewusstsein unser Einfühlungsvermögen in andere? Auf der Suche nach Antworten erfährt der Leser von spannenden Experimenten mit dem Spiegeltest und mit bildgebenden Verfahren. ln der Primatenforschung, der Beobachtung von Kindern und in Fallstudien von Patienten mit Hirnverletzungen zeigt sich, wie das Ichbewusstsein entsteht und wie es beeinträchtigt werden kann. Ein unterhaltsamer Streifzug durch die Entwicklungsgeschichtedes menschlichen Bewusstseins und seine Erforschung in Neurowissenschaften und Psychologie
