Abstract

Es war an einem Freitag des Jahres 2004, als in einem bis dahin unauffälligen Dorf namens Waffensen ein Schüler als Autor des weltweit wütenden Computerwurms »Sasser« festgenommen wurde. Für die aktuellen Medien eine Pflichtgeschichte - und für ein Magazin, dessen Drucktermin nahe war, eine kleine Herausforderung. Die Reporter des Spiegel indes fanden sogar Muße, die folgenden Details für den Einstieg ihres Beitrags zu ermitteln: »In dem Dorf Waffensen nahe dem niedersächsischen Rotenburg an der Wümme scheint die Welt noch in Ordnung: Der Gasthof >Eichenhof< lockt mit gemütlicher Kaminschenke, Bauer Poppe um die Ecke verkauft Fleisch und Marmelade aus eigener Produktion, und bislang brachte allein der ShantyChor einen Hauch der großen, weiten Welt in den norddeutschen Heideflecken.« Eichenhof, Bauer Poppe, Shanty-Chor: Mag sein, dass harte Recherchen vor Ort zu einer derart treffenden Charakterisierung des »Heideflecken« führten. Kann aber auch sein, dass stattdessen ganze 0.13 Sekunden Muße genügten. Gleich, nachdem der Beitrag am Samstag im Vorgriff aufs Heft bei Spiegel Online erschienen war, meldete sich jedenfalls ein Journalist im Internet-Medienforum jonet. Er hatte den Text gelesen und nebenbei »Waffensen« gegoogelt (in 0.13 Sekunden). Dabei war er auf folgendes Treffer-Ranking gestoßen: Platz 1 - Eichenhof. Platz 3 - Bauer Poppe. Platz 12 - Shanty-Chor. Als Marginalie des RechercheAlltags wäre der Fall nicht weiter erwähnenswert, würde er nicht auf einen Streich alle vier Antworten auf eine wichtige Frage illustrieren: Wie hat Google den Journalismus verändert?
