Abstract
Anlässlich der ODOK 2003 in Salzburg und passend zum Rahmenthema "Ein Jahrzehnt World Wide Web" widmete die KofSE ihre Sitzung am 23. September 2003 dort der inhaltlichen Erschließung von Internetressourcen mittels Dewey Decimal Classification, konkret: unter Nutzung von WebDewey, der modernsten Form dieser Universalklassifikation. Die Gastvortragende Esther SCHEVEN kam mit praktischer Erfahrung aus Frankfurt am Main zu uns. Sie berichtete über das EU-Projekt "RENARDUS" und den Anteil von DDB daran, zeigte die Klassifizierung elektronischer Dissertationen aus den Fachbereichen Geologie und Botanik ebenso wie für Sprachen und Literatur und machte schließlich deutlich, wie diese Arbeit im gemeinsamen "Academic Subject Gateway Service" von Renardus nutzbar wird. Anschließend stand sie - kompetent und ausdauernd - den neugierig gewordenen Workshop-Teilnehmern/-innen beim Üben zur Verfügung. Die drei Kleingruppen hatte sichtlich und hörbar das Dewey-Fieber gepackt; von Schwellenangst war im Handumdrehen nichts mehr zu spüren! Und: die barocke Weltkugel in der schönen historischen Aula der UB Salzburg, in der wir zu Gast waren, trug wohl mit dazu bei, uns Mut für die ersten Schritte in die globale DDC-Anwender-Community zu machen ... Außerdem brachte uns die Gastreferentin die noch druckfrischen "Übersichten" der DDC Deutsch, d.h. die obersten drei Ebenen (1000 Klassen), die in einer Erstübersetzung für die IFLA-Tagung im August in Berlin vorbereitet worden waren, mit. Die kleine Broschüre mit einem sehr gelungenen, kurzen Einführungstext eignet sich bestens als Erstinformation und zum Einstieg in DDC.
