Abstract

Digitale Wasserzeichen werden heute an zahlreichen Stellen erwähnt, wenn es um den Schutz digitaler Güter geht. Dabei sieht man sie immer wieder als eine erfolgversprechende Möglichkeit an, Mechanismen zum Schutz vor illegalen Kopien zu etablieren. Einer der prominentesten Vertreter dieser Idee istdie SecureDigitalMusic Initative, kurz SDML Durch ihre Aktivitäten wurden zahlreiche Diskussionen entfacht, die zu den unterschiedlichsten Ergebnissen kamen - bis hin zum Infragstellen des grundlegenden Prinzips von Wasserzeichen. Wir stellen in unserem Beitrag die Idee digitaler Wasserzeichen in ihrer vollen Bandbreite vor. Der Leser soll die Möglichkeit bekommen, sich selbst ein Urteil über Einsatz und Machbarkeit zu machen. Denn die Anwendungsgebiete sind viel weiter als nur im Digital Rights Manangement zu sehen.
