Abstract

Zu den bestbesuchten Veranstaltungen des diesjährigen Bibliothekartages in Augsburg gehörte die Diskussion um die Reform der Formalerschließung. Ganz offensichtlich spielt die Katalogisierung - trotz Internet, Digitalisierung, Dublin Core etc. - im täglichen Geschäft nach wie vor eine bedeutende Rolle. Die Debatte um Regelwerke und Datenformate wird jedenfalls mit großem Ernst und Engagement geführt. Doch die Diskussion droht mittlerweile unübersichtlich zu werden, fachliche Argumente, technische Erfordernisse und bibliothekspolitische Positionen gehen munter durcheinander.

"Bemerkenswerterweise argumentieren die RAK-Befürworter so gut wie nie formalistisch oder traditionalistisch, sondern meist pragmatisch und benutzerorientiert" - "Eine hundertprozentige Übereinstimmung von deutschen und anglo-amerikanischen Daten bliebe auch nach dem Umstieg eine Utopie. Der versprochene Effekt bei der Nachnutzung von AACR2-Datensätzen ist deshalb deutlich zu relativieren." - "Der Standardisierungsauschuss hat mit seinem Beschluss die Weiterentwicklung der RAK2 faktisch gestoppt. Aber kann es sich das deutsche Bibliothekswesen wirklich leisten, zwei Jahre lang keine eigenständige Regelwerksarbeit zu betreiben?"
