Abstract

Die öffentlichen Bibliotheken werden für die und in der Informationsgesellschaft gebraucht, aber sie müssen ihr Profil schärfen. Sie sollten sich von der Vorstellung verabschieden, immer neue Aufgaben dazuzunehmen - nach folgendem Muster: Auf die eine dicke Schicht Bücher legen wir Tonträger, dann kommen die Videos und wenn diese Schicht dick genug ist, packen wir die CD-ROMs drauf. Und ganz ober auf der Spitze steht der Internet-PC. Warum nicht auf einige traditionelle Aufgaben zugunsten besserer Leistungen in einem schmaleren Spektrum verzichten? Eine Vision aus dem Jahr 2003 zeigt, wie es gehen könnte
