Content: "Als der Verlag der legendären englischsprachigen Monumentalenzyklopädie 1998 seinen gesamten Buchvertrieb einstellte, konnte man die Encyclopaedia Britannica nur mehr in elektronischer Form kaufen - bis zu diesem Herbst. Da erschien überraschenderweise eine neue Printausgabe für rund 2000 US-$. Günstiger ist es auf alle Fälle, die auf einer CD-ROM versammelten 55 Millionen Wörter der Britannica und des begleitenden einsprachigen Merriam-Webster-Wörterbuches auf die Festplatte zu kopieren. Dort lassen sie sich auf Wunsch sogar komplett installieren. Zum Vergleich: Die eloquenteste deutschsprachige Enzyklopädie, Microsofts Encarta Professional, kommt auf vergleichsweise bescheidene 16,5 Millionen Wörter. Die hat sie aber besser organisiert, denn in der Britannica sind die Informationen zu einem Thema oft über verschiedene Artikel verstreut, weil neue Entwicklungen schon seit längerem in eigenen Jahrbuchartikeln beschrieben und nicht in den Artikelbestand integriert sind."
