Content: "Am Anfang war die Geste und das Symbol. Erst dann entwickelte sich die Sprache. Doch bis heute werden Gesten, Symbole und Sprache in denselben Gehirnregionen verarbeitet - vorausgesetzt, sie sind sinnhaltig. Dies schlussfolgern jetzt US-amerikanische Forscher aus Untersuchungen zur Gehirnaktivität bei der Verarbeitung von Gesten, Symbolen und Sprache. Jemandem, der sich mit der Hand über die Stirn wischt, ist es offenkundig zu heiß. Das verstehen Menschen über Sprach- und Kulturgrenzen hinweg. Symbole wie "den Vogel zeigen" werden dagegen gelernt und außerhalb bestimmter Kulturgemeinschaften nicht oder anders verstanden. Das alles wird ebenso wie die Gebärden- und gesprochene Sprache in den inferioren frontalen und posterioren temporalen Gehirnarealen verarbeitet, hat das Team um Allen Braun vom National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) jetzt laut Fachjournal Pnas herausgefunden.Die Forscher vergleichen diese Bereiche des menschlichen Gehirns mit einer sehr intelligenten Suchmaschine, die bei einer Anfrage sofort Bedeutungen in Form von Sprache, Symbolen oder Gesten bereitstellt."
