"Der Welt-Zeitungsverband (WAN) fordert ein Verbot der geplanten Anzeigen-Kooperation zwischenden Suchmaschinenbetreibern Google und Yahoo. Man habe die Wettbewerbsbehörden in Nordamerika und Europa aufgefordert, die Zusammenarbeit zu untersagen, teilte der Verband mit. Der Verband befürchtet ein Monopol von Google bei der Suchwort-Werbung. Die Suchmaschinen könnten wegen der fehlenden Konkurrenzsituation künftig weniger Geld an Online-Ausgaben von Zeitungen ausschütten, die Suchwort-Anzeigen von Google und Yahoo übernehmen. Google und Yahoo erzielen einen Großteil ihres Umsatzes mit kleinen Textanzeigen, die als Links über den Ergebnissen einer Suche stehen und meist einen inhaltlichen Zusammenhang mit der Suchanfrage haben. Der Werbekunde zahlt, wenn ein Nutzer auf den Link klickt. Um die Klickzahlen zu erhöhen, arbeiten die Suchmaschinen mit Partner-Seiten zusammen. Im Juni vereinbarten Google und Yahoo eine Kooperation, wonach Yahoo Werbung, die Google bereitstellt, neben den eigenen Suchergebnissen anzeigen könnte."
