Abstract
Ist es wirklich die "digitale Spaltung", die unserer Gesellschaft droht? Und ist das Allheilmittel gegen die angeblich drohende Informationsarmut weiter Bevölkerungskreise tatsächlich ein flächendeckender Internetzugang? Auch wenn Bibliotheken von Programmen wie "Schulen ans Netz" profitieren, springen diese viel zu kurz. Vielmehr muss es darum gehen, Kindern und Jugendlichen von klein auf die Möglichkeit zu geben, umfassende Medienkompetenz zu erwerben - und dies meint vor allem die kritische Bewältigung der vielfältigen medialen Beeinflussung. Bibliotheken können hierzu eine Menge beitragen, und zwar mit durchaus konventionellen Methoden, auch wenn diese nicht modern erscheinen mögen
