Abstract
Auf dem Weg zur Einführung und Anwendung der Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) in den deutschsprachigen Ländern markiert der 12. Oktober 2000 einen wichtigen Einschnitt. An diesem Tag trafen sich Vertreter der Bibliotheksverbünde und anderer Institutionen, die an der DDC interessiert sind, in der Deutschen Bibliothek Frankfurt zur konstituierenden Sitzung des Konsortiums DDC Deutsch. Die Einrichtung dieses Konsortiums geht auf die Empfehlungen der Studie Einführung und Nutzung der Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) im deutschen Sprachraum zurück, die eine von der Konferenz für Regelwerksfragen einberufene Arbeitsgruppe auf dem Bibliothekskongress in Leipzig im März 2000 vorgestellt hat. Vor dem Hintergrund des großen personellen, finanziellen und organisatorischen Aufwands, den die Erarbeitung einer deutschen DDC-Ausgabe, ihre Anwendung in der Nationalbibliographie und die Nutzung in den Verbünden und anderen Bibliotheken verursachen wird, erschien es den Beteiligten wichtig, durch diesen Zusammenschluss zu dokumentieren, dass die Einführung der DDC ein wichtiges gemeinsames Anliegen ist, bei dem die Lasten partnerschaftlich geteilt werden müssen. Gegenüber den Unterhaltsträgern auf Bundes- und Landesebene, aber auch innerhalb der Bibliotheksöffentlichkeit unterstreicht die Gründung des Konsortiums die Bereitschaft der Konsortialmitglieder zu einem dauerhaften Engagement für die DDC, für das aber auch entsprechende personelle und materielle Ressourcen erforderlich sind
