Abstract
Gegenstand des vorliegenden Beitrages ist die Durchführung von Leistungsvergleichen zwischen verschiedenen Gruppen von Universitätsbibliotheken. Im Rahmen dieser Untersuchung, die sich auf Universitätsbibliotheken in Österreich, Deutschland, der Schweiz, den USA, Australien und Kanada bezieht, werden Leistungskennzahlen unterschiedlicher Komplexität als Vergleichsbasis herangezogen, wobei unter anderem eine Spitzenkennzahl zur Darstellung der Gesamtleistung einer Bibliothek zum Einsatz kommt. Während in einzelnen Teilleistungsbereichen durchaus signifikante Leistungsunterschiede zwischen Universitätsbibliotheken im deutschsprachigen und im englischsprachigen Raum, zwischen kleinen und großen Universitätsbibliotheken, zwischen Bibliotheken an renommierten und an weniger renommierten Universitäten sowie zwischen Bibliotheken an staatlichen und an privaten Universitäten auftreten, ergeben Vergleiche auf Basis der Spitzenkennzahl keine signifikanten Leistungsdifferenzen zwischen diesen betrachteten Gruppen von Bibliotheken
