Abstract

As the bibliographic database WorldCat has grown, libraries have found other uses for it that goes beyond cataloguing. Foremost among them has been resource sharing. With the introduction of the FirstSearch servie in 1991, OCLC moved beyond bibliography to provide not just information about information, but the information itself. The next stage of development for FirstSearch will see the introduction of OCLC FirstSearch Electronic Collections Online, Electronic Archiving, and Inttegrated Searching
