Abstract

Many approaches for using special purpose hardware to enhance the performance of an information retrieval have been proposed or implemented. Rather than using conventional digital computers or parallel processors developed for general applications, these special purpose processors have been designed specifically for particlar facets of information retrieval, such as the rapid searching of unstructured data or manipulating surrogates or indices for the information in the database
