Abstract
Die Gattung 'Zeitung' ist ein sehr schwieriges bibliothekarisches Sammelgut. Beschaffung, Format und Aufbewahrung sowie eine gewisse Geringschätzung haben erst relativ spät dazu geführt, daß Zeitungen systematisch, aber nicht von allen Bibliotheken und zum Teil nur selektiv, gesammelt wurden. die Zeitungskommission des DBI - sie bestand von den 60er Jahren bis Ende der 80er Jahre dieses Jahrhunderts - hat sich damit befaßt, die Kooperation zeitungssammelnder Institutionen zu organisieren. Seit den 60er Jahren wird von unterschiedlichen Förder- und Trägereinrichtungen die Verfilmung von Zeitungen zum Zwecke der Bestandssicherung vorangetrieben. Kataloge zur Verzeichnung des Zeitungsbestandes existieren in vielfältiger Form, zunehmend auch in digitalisierter Form. Durch die ZDB wird ein einheitlicher elektronischer überregionaler Bestandsnachweis aufgebaut
