Abstract
Bestandserhaltung, Kapazitätsprobleme der Magazine und Nichtteilnahme an der Fernleihe sind die Gründe, die für eine Mikroverfilmung sprechen. Von namhaften Institutionen und Einzelpersonen wurde 1965 das Mikrofilmarchiv der deutschsprachigen Presse e.V. (MFA) gegründet, um Organisation und Koordination der Verfilmungsaufgaben wahrzunehmen, was bis heute andauert. Um Übersichten über den Verfilmungsstand zu geben, veröffentlicht das MFA in Abständen von ungefähr 3 Jahren ein Bestandsverzeichnis. Darin werden die Masterfilme der Mitglieder und, soweit bekannt, die Duplikatfilme in allen öffentlichen Institutionen Deutschlands nachgewiesen. Elektronische Technik macht den Mikrofilm und damit das MFA nicht überflüssig
