Abstract

Considers the evolution of librarianship from dealing only with books as entities, through the organization and dissemination of their text and content, to dealing with information in all its forms. The theoretical framework of information science has allowed the profession of librarianship to remain alive and serving the community through adapting to the needs of society in a situation of constant change. Discusses the information gap between information and user, and the role of librarians in information literacy. Suggests library professionals might now consider themselves like doctors, available around the clock to cure information ailments
