Abstract

Examines the function of a shelflist, how these functions are performed by individual libraries, and the role of automation in performing these functions. Describes criteria for evaluating the capability of an automated library system to perform functions in the areas of holdings, inventory, classification, and collection assessment. Suggests 3 possible approaches to automated shelflist management. The primary element in deciding on shelflist management will be the particular library's own requirements
