Abstract

Discusses some aspects of the management of image collections in electronic form. Looks at developments in the UK higher education sector and acquisitions of large picture collections by commercial interests. Considers the indexing and retrieval problems posed by images, particularly in the art field, where a picture may contain hundreds of objects that could conceivably be referenced, and possible solutions being examined, such as the computer matching of shapes
