Abstract

Relates and discusses the experience of a group of librarians in their bid to provide an index for the Guardian Newspaper of Nigeria. Describes the methodology used and the problems encountered in terms of the publisher, working tools, personnel and finance. Highlights the unsystematic efforts so far made at indexing in Nigeria and makes suggestions to aid prospective indexers. Emphasizes the need to compile a comprehensive thesaurus of Nigeriana to aid newspaper indexers, which could be undertaken by either the National Library of Nigeria or the Nigerian Library Association
