Abstract

Die zunehmende Informationsflut und ein nur noch schwer überschaubares Medienangebot stellen die Bibliotheken, die traditionellen Anbieter von Literatur und Informationen, aber auch die Bibliotheksbenutzer - zunal Wissenschaftler und Studierende - seit einigen Jahren vor wachsende Herausforderungen. Die Veränderungen der Rahmenbedingungen, in denen Bibliotheken als Informationsanbieter agieren, die Entwicklung der Informationstechnik, die Zunahme multimedialer Anwendungen auch und gerade im Bildungsbereich, ein wachsendes Angebot fachbezogener Internet-Ressourcen und die Tendenz zur Selbstversorgung potentieller Benutzer erzeugen einen Anpassungsdruck, dem die Bibliotheken nur standhalten können, indem sie ihr Dienstleistungsangebot schrittweise unter Berücksichtigung der neuen Entwicklungen erweitern und ergänzen, ohne dabei abrupt mit ihrer eigenen Tradition zu brechen
