Abstract

Reviews the EPIC (Epidemiology and Pharmacology Information Care) set of 3 CD-ROMs providing a database of more than 4 million anonymous UK patient records. EPIC is more of a database than an encyclopedia and is of potential use to the epidemiologist or primary health care researcher. The data used in EPIC is derived from the General Practice Research Database and draws from records that have been routinely collected from selected general practices employing the VAMP medical system. Oxford Medical Information System (OXMIS) codes were used to record the patient data. Discusses ease of use and value for money
