Considers the degree to which privatization and commercialization of the Internet and WWW is presenting challenges for academic libraries. Briefly examines the history, structure and development of the Internet, including the role of the US government. Notes the trend towards privatization of Internet connectivity and certain information resources and how academic libraries and their administration might deal with them
