Abstract

Authority control is the most important part of the linguistic support of a library automated system. Linguistic support comprises all devices based upon natural or documentary languages used for creating; indexing and retrieving bibliographic records. The linguistic support limits the variation in the indexing language and search formulations. This is the essence of authority control. Discusses authority control in conventional systems; authority control and the autonomous subject oriented systems; authority control and th eplanning of the integrated system of the Russian Acadeny of Sciences Library, St. Petersburg; and library cooperation when creating an authority control systems
