Abstract

Considers the issue of preservation and archiving of electronic files, as distinct from paper based materials, and with the difficulties connected with it. Outlines the services provided by archives and data archives, with brief consideration of electronic publishing, with particular reference to: social science data archives; electronic text archives; and historical data archives. Notes the national archives of Sweden, Canada, USA, Australia and UK; and efforts to create electronic archives by retrospective conversion
