Abstract
Die deutsche Geistesgeschichte seit Aufkommen des Buchdrucks ist nirgends vollständig dokumentiert. Auch die regionalen Bibliotheken enthalten zusammen nur knapp 2/3 des historischen Schrifttums. Mit Hilfe der Volkswagen-Stiftung konnten aber in den letzten jahren 5 dieser Institutionen ihre Bestände jeweils für eine Epoche gezielt ausbauen. Ihre Arbeitsgemeinschaft repräsentiert nun das Pendant der Nationalbibliotheken anderer Länder
