Abstract

Describes the Curt Teich Postcard Archives at the Lake County Museum in Wauconda, Illinois. The core collection consists of the industrial archives of the Curt Teich Company of Chicago which operated from 1898 to 1978 as the world's largest volume printer of view and advertising postcards. 360.000 individual images in the core collection depict the USA, Canada and some other foreign countries in the first 8 decades of the 20th century. Since 1991, the archive has engaged in an active programme of collecting postcards and postcard albums to add to the core indistrial collection. Distinctive items in this collection are described. The content of the Teich Archives are computer catalogued by subjects, date and geographical location, and a 1.902-term thesaurus controls subject searches in the Teich Archives' database. The archive is used extensively by publishers, companies, architects, scholars, television procedures and private individuals
