Abstract

During the Dorking international study conference on classification for informational retrieval in 1957 it was acknowledged that classification was only one contributing factor towards effective information retrieval. Today information embraces text, document, picture, and surrogate retrieval and must be seen in the total context of corporate information systems and the Internet. Draws attention to a conference on knowledge organization for information retrieval which will take place in 1997
