Abstract

Summarizes from the literature the history and evolution of CDS/ISIS. From a driectory of 642 entries of databases from the Caribbean and Latin America, a descriptive statistical analysis was conducted of a random sample of 50% of the entries to show the usage of CDS/ISIS software and its various modalities. The results show that CDS/ISIS, and its modalities, is used in 60% of the databases while dBase, and its versions, ranks second with 20%. The distribution of databases is noted revealing that Cuba is the leading country in the production of databases in Latin America and the Caribbean
