Abstract

This paper describes the new tasks libraries have to fulfill in the electronic age. Thanks to the improvement of the network and datacommunication infrastructure the partition lines between libraries are easier to overstep. This opens new perspectives for library cooperation and library service. An illustration is given after the example of the Open Library Network in the Netherlands and its extensions to parts of Germany
